SEPTEMBER 2010 COVER STORY
ROD WRENCHERS!
Do you want a river catch of a lifetime? Tim Walden’s the man to help you achieve it – all for the price of a day ticket!
Tim Walden’s feeder had been in the water barely 10 seconds when the stout tip started bouncing up and down. “That’s a chub!” he said with confidence. “They’re feeling the rod and dropping the pellet.” Soon after, the knocks on the tip came to a halt, and a minute later the rod was wrenched over.
“That’s better – barbel!” The hardest-fighting fish in Britain’s rivers was no match for Tim’s tackle and soon the first ‘whiskers’ of the day lay in the landing net. The relief was almost palpable. The River Wye, you see, was low and clear. Far from ideal conditions to catch anything, let alone wild and wary barbel. We needn’t have worried, though. Ten minutes later, another barbel was landed, then a couple of chub, then more barbel. Welcome to big-river fishing, Tim-Walden style!
