Sensas IM5 range - 13/05/2009

Kevin Wilmot has been using the new range of Sensas IM5 baits for several months now. Here’s his verdict.

The Sensas Crazy Bait range has been a firm favourite among commercial-fishery anglers for several years now. However, always keen to enhance its range, the French company has now introduced a new stimulant called IM5, and with it a completely new range of groundbait, pellets, paste and liquid additives. IM5 was developed in the Far East as a fully digestible food source for fish breeding. It contains both attractants and appetite stimulants and I have been using several IM5 products over the last four months… with interesting results.

During the cold winter, one of the best ways to catch on some of my local commercials is to use a tiny groundbait feeder with two red maggots on the hook. With a tip-off that the IM5 Betaine Green groundbait might be just the thing, I set off more in hope than expectation. Four hours later and with toes and fingers numb with cold, I’d caught 15 F1 and F2 hybrids on a day when many anglers clearly decided to stay in bed – I had the lake to myself!

The groundbait was really easy to mix; I didn’t riddle it. It absorbed a lot of water, so I’d recommend mixing it as soon as you arrive at your swim, then leaving it for a good 30 minutes before adding more water. It’s a fairly light-textured groundbait and its green colouring blends with the lake bed in clear-water conditions. Other groundbaits in the IM5 range are a feed-rich Amino Red for summer and a lighter-coloured Vit-min Yellow, which would be a good choice in coloured water.

I’m a big fan of pellets on commercials but I didn’t have the chance to use the new IM5 versions until just last week when the weather warmed. In fact, I took this opportunity to try the Vit-min 6mm hook pellets over the same flavour of 4mm hard-pellet feed, enhanced with a couple of squirts of Vit-min Liquid Additive. The results were again impressive. For me, 6mm hook pellets have the edge over small pellets when the water is cold, and these stayed on the hook really well while waggler fishing at distances up to 25 metres. While the action wasn’t exactly fast and furious, the pellets brought a dozen or so carp up to 5lb. Although I haven’t yet tried everything in the IM5 range, I’ve certainly seen enough to convince me that they’re an excellent addition to the Crazy Bait range. Roll on the summer, when I can use the fantastic-looking paste!
