Battling the near gale-force winds, I’ve made the short journey to the popular British Waterway’s Earlswood Engine Lake.
Home to a big head of carp and skimmers, this large expanse of water represents the ideal open-water venue to prove the effectiveness of my approaches and the importance of using the correct baits.
When it comes to selecting where to fish on a big water like the Engine, the phrase ‘needle in a haystack’ springs to mind. And don’t immediately think that the pegs closest to the car park are the best swims. A little homework on the venue’s current form won’t go amiss and often the best way to do this is to contact the fishery directly.
