Big Loddon Barbel

15lb plus Specimen falls to techniques gleaned from local expert.

This chunky 15lb 8oz river Loddon barbel was the reward for Hampshire angler Alan Muller after employing the guiding services of Total Coarse Fishing regular, Duncan Charman.
After having difficulties getting bites from a stretch of the waterway controlled by Farnham Angling Society, Alan decided to invest in a day’s fishing with Duncan to see if he could point him in the right direction.
It was money well spent, with Alan learning plenty about tackling the river’s residents during a session with the local specialist that saw him land a number of fish, as well as hook into and lose a very big barbel.

Armed with knew knowledge and plenty of confidence over the following fortnight Alan took the place apart, landing numerous chub to 6lb 4oz and plenty of barbell, including this new personal best of 15lb 8oz.

“l can’t thank Duncan enough,” said Alan. “Where I was catching nothing in the dark before I’m fishing in daylight, spending just thirty minutes in a swim using a tactic that’s instant and is really producing the results I wanted.”

Although Alan didn’t want to reveal too much about his new approach, he said that all his fish have fallen to 13mm Sonubaits pellets which he drills and hair-rigs next to a Korum S3 size 8 barbless hook, using the smallest possible weight possible to hold bottom onto which he moulds scolded pellets around.
