Before I headed for the bankside I loaded two of these reels with 4lb (0.16mm) Shimano Technium Match line, having fitted the shallow line reducers – which I think is a great feature – to the spools.
The 300 metres of line filled the spools to just below the chamfered lip, and with excellent line lay too. Did I mention that these reels are incredibly light?
Despite the fact that I used these feeder reels out of their ‘comfort zone’, there’s actually very little to say once I was out on the bank, other than on the cast the line came off the spool smoothly, and without any concerns. There was no sign of line twist in the retrieve, which, by the way, was really quick. I fished up to the line clips and there were no issues there, and I use the reels’ front drags when the rods were set up on the alarms. These were sensitive and really smooth, which I could quickly adjust when playing a fish.
