Middy and Sonubaits backed angler Russ Evans has been out breaking the ice to get some perch fishing in at Framfield Fishery in East Sussex.
Since my last perch session I have not been able to wet a line but I have been down on the bankside of the River Thames at Ham filming product reviews for the Coarse and Match section of Tackle Fanatics. Being Content manager for the Internet site I have access to all sorts of tackle items with a view to really looking closely at the products before reviewing them in written and filming forms. One thing that really stands out is the quality and finishing touches to certain products especially carbon blanks on rods. Of course the higher value items will always have that top quality feel and finish but I have been impressed with two manufacturers that produce mid to high end rods, namely Korum and my tackle sponsors Middy Tackle. Anglers looking to spend around £60-£100 should take a close look at the two said tackle brands before parting with the hard earned cash.
With it now being December my attentions have been on my radio show The Obsessed Angler on Ridge Radio where my song playlists have started to include the odd Christmas tune but on Wednesday 19th December (9pm to 11pm) I will be presenting my Christmas Show, so if you like your Christmas tracks mixed in with some angling chat and topics why not tune in. If you have that special person in your life you want to wish a Merry Christmas live on air, then email me
and I will duly oblige.
On last week’s show I invited newbie angler Andy Wilson into the studio to chat about his first proper days fishing when we went to an icy Framfield Park to target some perch where Andy caught two of 1lbs and 1lbs 9oz. It was a very enjoyable show which Andy enjoyed and when he has more experience of fishing I have invited Andy to return for an update on how his angling has hopefully progressed. In 2013 I will be inviting more anglers onto the show to chat about their angling conquests, whether it be match fishing, predator, pleasure or even to chat about their favourite fishery or angling in general. If you would like to come on the show, let me know by emailing me at
It is amazing how time flies and just after the New Year I would have completed my first year with the station with nearly 50 shows under my belt. The station is community radio that goes out worldwide over the Internet so we need to fund the station ourselves with small grants and fund raising projects. In the spring I will be doing a 24 hour Fishathon to raise monies for the station and after Christmas I will be looking to set a firm date and fishery to host the event, it will be great fun.
This week I will probably be having my last match of 2012 when I take part in the NG Floats Silvers 3rd round at Monk Lakes, hopefully the ice will stay away as I have some serious catching up to do after a disastrous last round.
